The Election Committee of the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association has granted existing members another opportunity to clear pending subscription dues after several lawyers were left out of the voter's list for the upcoming association elections. The extension comes in the backdrop of ongoing concerns over voter eligibility and participation in the May 21 polls, an issue that recently reached the Apex Court amid complaints of exclusion from the electoral process.

According to a resolution passed on May 8, the Committee considered multiple requests from members seeking time to regularise their membership status following the revised election schedule. The decision allows left-out existing members to deposit outstanding dues by May 11, after which a supplementary voters’ list will be released containing the names of eligible members who comply within the deadline. The development follows proceedings before the Supreme Court of India over the exclusion of newly registered Advocates-on-Record from the electoral roll for the 2026 SCAORA elections.

The Committee noted that representations were examined in light of the “compelling reasons” presented by certain members and the rescheduled date of voting. The Apex Court had earlier provisionally permitted newly registered Advocates-on-Record to participate in the elections, observing that lawyers should not be deprived of voting rights merely because of procedural or administrative delays in their formal induction into the association.
